On Monday, voters in Central Frontenac Township selected those individuals who will represent them on Council for the next four years. I am grateful for the opportunity to represent the people of Hinchinbrooke District, as well as work toward the priorities of our community over this time. I look forward to working with my colleague, Philip Smith, Mayor-elect Frances Smith, as well as the rest of your new Council.
I also wish to congratulate my other colleagues during the race: Heather Fox, Sharon Shepherd, and Jim Lowery. They brought a great deal of enthusiasm, talent, and energy to the campaign. More important, they brought a genuine love for the community and its people to the race. They ran campaigns that they – and their supporters – should feel an immense source of pride in. Because we are a small tight-knit community, it is hard not to think about them, and I hope that we find ways to remain neighbours and friends. I hope that in the coming weeks, months and years I’ll have a chance to work with all of them. They are all great people.
During this campaign, you told me what your concerns were – what change you wanted to see. I listened, and now it is time to act.
In the coming weeks, I will be focusing my efforts on two major priorities for Hinchinbrooke, the fire hall at Parham and Piccadilly Hall and the fire substation. I committed to fighting hard for our district on these particular issues, and pushing for results will be my main immediate focus. I hope that we can find the means to get action on these important issues, and I look forward to bringing them to the Council table.
In the medium to long term, I look forward to working with my new colleagues and staff in order to find ways to live within our means, to ensure that the tax and regulatory burden placed on Central Frontenac Township households is as light as can be managed. It will not be easy when we consider the impact of the increase in policing costs the Township faces, but our bottom line should be your bottom line. Every dollar we tax is a dollar you don’t have for food, hydro, clothing, gas, your children’s education, or your retirement. That thought will guide my position.
Above all, I want to keep you in the loop.
I will be maintaining my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/CouncillorBrent) as well as my Council e-mail: bcameron@centralfrontenac.com. Whether you are a full time or a seasonal resident and ratepayer, I want to ensure that you stay informed and that you have a voice.
Again – I thank you for your support and your confidence. I will strive to justify your vote and your trust.
Brent
