You would think that summer is a quiet time…It’s really not.
In no particular order, here is an update:
1. Again, congratulations to Colleen Steele on being named as Hinchinbrooke District’s Senior of the Year. It was a privilege to join with family and friends as we presented her with the award on June 28th.
2. A great get-together with my neighbours at the Cole Lake Association’s AGM and BBQ. Wishing good health to Dwayne Peters as he and Roline were unable to make it. Thanks to Ethan for riding shotgun with me.
3. Struthers Road has had some TLC and Browns Road has been scoped out by the roads department. They have also confirmed with me that planning is being done for more permanent repairs to Westport Road at some point.
4. The grass cutting issue at Pic Hall was brought up with staff. There were mechanical issues with the mower, but things will be back on schedule. Going forward, duties for facilities maintenance will be handled on a full-time basis and each community hall is being set up with a suggestion/ complaint box so that those using the facility can express their concerns. Beyond that, I will be monitoring the situation. I am confident in the changes being made.
5. Council decided at our July meeting to refer the draft noise, refuse, and safe properties by-laws to a committee comprised of 4 councillors, including myself. These draft by-laws can have a major impact on individuals and communities within the Township, so it's imperative we get it right. If you have thoughts / questions / concerns, please send them my way.
6. Council has named Dep. Mayor MacDonald as a member of the Central Frontenac Seniors Housing Task Force. This group, in conjunction with the County of Frontenac, is spearheading the establishment of a new Seniors Housing project for the township. The project for South Frontenac is moving through the planning stage, while ground has already been broken for the project on Wolfe Island. Having a geared to income alternative for seniors who don't want to leave the area is something I will be glad to see.
7. The Arena's 40th Anniversary Gala is August 6th. A hot buffet and entertainment by ‘Texas Tuxedo’ will make for make for a great evening. Tickets are $30 per person and going fast. There are only 400, so if you haven’t got one (or two) and you’re interested, give me a call.
8. This Saturday is the Hazardous Waste Day, with the drop off at the usual location at the corner of #38 and #7 between 10 am and 2 pm
9. Saturday is also the Eagle Lake cottagers AGM, which I will be attending.
10. Sunday, the 17th, is the Family Farm Open House at Tryon Farm (2211 Wagarville Road in Parham) from 10 am to 3 pm. $5 admission, but free for ages 3 and under. Money raised goes to supporting our Parham Fair, so please come out if you can.
As always, I thank you for your support and can be reached at bcameron@centralfrontenac.com
Take care of yourselves and each other.
Brent
